On Thursday, January 30, De Nederlandse GGZ hosted an exclusive Roundtable on Digital Mental Health in Maastricht, Netherlands, focused on transforming mental healthcare in the country. The event’s theme, Learning from International Best Practices to Implement a Data-Driven, Value-Based Stepped Care Approach, brought together national and international experts to explore how proven international models can be adapted to ensure accessible, affordable, and high-quality care by slightly pivoting existing resources.
The goal of the Roundtable was to explore how to tailor international success stories in mental healthcare to the Dutch context – Think global, act local (GLOCAL). The discussion generated actionable insights and strategies for implementing a data-driven, value-based approach to mental health that guarantees high-quality mental health care for all in the Netherlands.
A highlight of the event was the Dimence Group’s presentation of their digital mental health success story, Thubble. This fully digital offering has significantly shortened treatment durations, improved patient satisfaction, and enhanced the efficient use of treatment capacity, with one full-time equivalent professional handling twice as many clients. This example illustrated the potential of digital tools to streamline care processes while maintaining high quality.
Professor David M Clark, a globally recognised expert in data-driven care models, led the international best practice session. As one of the original architects of the NHS Talking Therapies program, Professor Clark shared insights from over 15 years of successful implementation of data-driven care in over 12 countries. His contributions highlighted the impact of structured, evidence-based approaches to mental health care.
eMHIC’s Executive Director, Professor Anil Thapliyal, chaired the discussion on the opportunities and challenges of implementing a value-based mental healthcare approach in the Netherlands. This Roundtable provided a platform for policymakers, healthcare executives, and international experts to collaborate and develop concrete solutions for the future of mental health in the Netherlands.
Congratulations to De Nederlandse GGZ and Dimence Group for hosting this vital event and their continued commitment to transforming mental healthcare in the Netherlands.
