The India AI Impact Summit 2026, held in New Delhi under the IndiaAI Mission, brought together global leaders, policymakers, researchers and industry representatives to advance a vision of impact-driven and human-centred artificial intelligence. The Summit positioned AI not only as an engine for economic growth, but as a catalyst for social progress and human wellbeing.
Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Summit underscored India’s commitment to responsible and inclusive AI development across sectors including health, education and public services. A consistent theme throughout the programme was the importance of pairing innovation with governance, safety and public trust.
For the global digital mental health community, the Summit highlighted the expanding role of AI in early identification, prevention and scalable support. In contexts where mental health needs are significant and workforce capacity is limited, AI-enabled screening, analytics and decision-support tools offer potential to extend reach while maintaining standards of care. Discussions reflected a shared understanding that AI in mental health should enhance clinical judgement and human connection, not replace it.
From an eMHIC perspective, the Summit reinforces the importance of global dialogue on standards, accreditation, interoperability and evidence-informed implementation. As countries advance national AI strategies, coordinated approaches to ethics, regulation and system integration will remain central to ensuring that AI contributes meaningfully to mental wellbeing and resilient health systems.
