China Global Dialogue Forum: Digital innovation driving mental health transformation

It was a privilege for the eMental Health International Collaborative (eMHIC) to partner with Kangning Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University and the School of Mental Health to host the China Global Dialogue Forum in Wenzhou on 29 March 2026.

Titled “Digital Innovation Driving Mental Health Transformation,” the forum brought together global leaders to explore how digital innovation and AI are reshaping mental healthcare systems.

A global exchange of leadership and expertise

The forum convened an exceptional group of speakers spanning policy, clinical care, research, and large-scale technology implementation. Contributors included Dr Weili Guan (Chairman, Wenzhou Kangning Hospital), Xiaochun Wang (Director, Wenzhou Health Commission), Dr Xin-Min Li and Professor Andrew Greenshaw (University of Alberta), Quang Fu (Director, National Center for Mental Health, China), Charles Curie (The Curie Group, USA), Dr Christopher Cheok Cheng Soon (Singapore), Dr Weihua Yue (President, Peking University), Dr Joseph Lau (Fellow of Public Health of the Royal Colleges of Physicians), Dr Xiaohong Li (President, Beijing Huilongguan Hospital), Dr Maryana Kravtsenyuk (University of Toronto), Dr Yuen-kwok Wing (The Chinese University of Hong Kong), Dr Gaohua Wang (President, Chinese Society of Psychiatrists), Dr Chengbin Guan (Wenzhou Kangning Hospital), and Chunfang Lou (UNICEF China).

Systems thinking at the centre

The central theme, “Intelligent Care for the Future: Global Innovations and Practices in AI-Driven Mental Health for Children and Adolescents,” highlighted the importance of systems thinking in advancing care.

China’s approach reflects a strong commitment to integrated, end-to-end solutions across the mental health care pathway, with alignment across policy, service delivery, and technology.

Quang Fu’s address stood out as particularly substantive and forward-looking, offering a clear articulation of national priorities and the direction of travel for mental health reform.

From innovation to impact

A strong sense of shared purpose ran throughout the forum, with speakers and participants united in their commitment to improving outcomes, closing treatment gaps, and ensuring that innovation remains grounded in human need.

A clear message emerged: digital transformation in mental health is not only about technology. It depends on systems, relationships, and collaboration across sectors. Real progress requires alignment between policymakers, clinicians, researchers, technologists, and civil society.

Strengthening global collaboration

eMHIC remains committed to advancing this global dialogue, fostering meaningful partnerships, and supporting the translation of innovation into safe, equitable mental healthcare systems worldwide.

A highlight of the forum was the recognition of Dr Weili Guan’s outstanding leadership. eMHIC was proud to appoint Dr Guan to its Global Leadership Council, strengthening our shared commitment to international collaboration and progress in digital mental health.
