New Delhi, India – July 25, 2025 – India’s first-ever Expert Dialogue on Emerging International Trends in the digital mental health domain in New Delhi was a landmark event, given the scale of mainstream media’s interest in digital mental health. India’s premier national newspapers, such as The Hindustan and Times of India, amongst many other publications, were present at the media briefing.
This Hindustan Times had just recently published a significant article titled “Supreme Court Issues Nationwide Norms Amid Rising Student Suicides,” highlighting the nation’s urgent and groundbreaking move to establish nationwide mental health safeguards across all educational institutions. This new legislative framework underscores the Indian government’s profound commitment to addressing the mental health crisis and provided a powerful backdrop for the dialogue.
A Nation on the Rise: India’s Digital and Demographic Advantage
India’s rich cultural heritage and dynamic economic landscape provide a powerful foundation for its evolving role on the global stage. As the 5th largest economy by nominal GDP (2024), surpassing the UK and France, and the third largest by Purchasing Power Parity, India is a force for innovation. Its digital infrastructure is a marvel, with UPI handling over 12 billion transactions monthly and the Aadhaar biometric system having enrolled over 1.3 billion citizens. Furthermore, with more than 65% of its population under 35, India is uniquely positioned to harness its talent pool and technological prowess for transformative initiatives in mental healthcare.
Pioneering the Future: Key Discussions and Strategic Collaborations
The Expert Dialogue, hosted by the eMental Health International Collaborative (eMHIC) in collaboration with online counselling and therapy platfrom NWNT (“No Worry No Tension”), brought together global leaders to explore scalable and sustainable digital solutions tailored to India’s expansive infrastructure. Core focus areas included:
-
Implementing emotional wellness audits across schools and workplaces.
-
Training mental health professionals in digital tools for early detection and intervention.
-
Leveraging India’s digital infrastructure to expand access to mental health information, screening, and care.
-
Co-designing solutions with individuals with lived experience.
Dr. Sandeep Vohra, Founder of NWNT, emphasized the nation’s potential. “India has a real opportunity to lead the world in digital mental health, by making emotional wellness screenings as routine as physical checkups. With rising concerns and over 80% of those needing care lacking timely access, early detection and intervention are critical. We have the tools, what we need now is action.”
A Collective Movement Towards a Healthier Future
This high-level forum was more than a symbolic milestone; it was a beacon of hope and a testament to what visionary leadership and dedicated people can achieve. It marks a collective movement toward a future where mental health is understood, prioritized, and effectively addressed through innovative solutions. India stands at the cusp of a mental health revolution, ready to set a global example through innovation, inclusion, and a commitment to well-being for all.
