Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) is excited to announce that Holly Coole, Senior Manager for Digital Mental Health, and Francesca Edelmann, Manager for Digital Mental Health in the Innovative Devices group, have co-authored a paper published in JMIR Publications Mental Health.

This paper introduces a new conceptual framework for Digital Mental Health Technologies (DMHTs), outlining eight key domains that are essential for categorizing and understanding these technologies.

This framework aims to improve how we develop, communicate, and regulate digital mental health tools, ensuring their safe and effective use.

As demand for digital mental health services grows, this proposed framework plays a crucial role in supporting the NHS’s shift from “analogue to digital” care. It provides a structured approach to understanding DMHTs, helping us navigate and communicate their complexities across sectors.
