The eMental Health International Collaborative (eMHIC) is delighted to share the special recognition bestowed upon our Founder, President and CEO, Professor Anil Thapliyal, by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
On 9 October 2026, the Honourable Joedy Wall, Minister of Health and Community Services, honoured Professor Thapliyal in St. John’s, with a certificate expressing the province’s deep appreciation for his “16 years of exceptional leadership and partnership in advancing digital mental health care.”
In acknowledging Professor Thapliyal’s contribution, the certificate states:
“Your guidance has served as a beacon for our province, helping us navigate emerging opportunities, chart new directions, and expand access to innovative mental health supports.”
The recognition further acknowledges the lasting contribution of his work to mental health care across the province:
“Through your dedication and expertise, you have helped shape a more connected, responsive, and accessible mental health system for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.”
This recognition speaks to something fundamental to eMHIC’s mission: meaningful and lasting progress in mental health is built on relationships, trust, shared vision and a collective commitment to making a difference.
Sixteen Years of Collaboration and Shared Commitment
For 16 years, Professor Thapliyal has worked alongside lived experience leaders, policymakers, practitioners, academics, industry and communities in Newfoundland and Labrador to champion innovation and explore how digital approaches can help bridge gaps in access to mental health information, care, support and treatment.
This longstanding partnership reflects eMHIC’s enduring belief that digital innovation is about people, connection, equity and ensuring that individuals and families can access the right support when they need it.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Minister Joedy Wall and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador for this meaningful recognition, and to the many partners across the province whose collaboration and commitment have helped advance this shared vision.
At eMHIC, we believe that the greatest measure of our work is the difference we make in people’s lives.
Congratulations to Professor Anil Thapliyal on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you to Newfoundland and Labrador for 16 years of partnership, trust and shared commitment to a better future for mental health.
