The next phase will reward specificity and safety.
- Multimodal AI: combining text, voice, behaviour, and physiology may improve signal quality, provided consent and purpose are clear.
- Machine-native interventions: tools designed for what AI does well, such as structured rehearsal, pattern surfacing, and just-in-time prompts, rather than imitation of therapists.
- Divergent regulation: jurisdictions are moving at different speeds, which will shape where and how products launch. Expect disclosure and audit requirements to grow (EU AI Act).
- Human–AI collaboration: routine tasks shift to AI so humans can focus on risk, complexity, and alliance. Success depends on workflow fit and team training.
