Initiative Overview

The Current Gap

Treatment resistance is widespread and serious in severe mental health conditions, which calls for new and clinically effective treatment options. In schizophrenia approx. 30% of patients do not respond to current treatment options, predominantly medication and talking therapies.

For other mental health conditions the average treatment resistance ranges between 20-40%, and apart from inflicting immense individual suffering it contributes to huge economic costs for individuals, families and societies world wide.

Our Solution

Heka VR is a medical software tool therapists and patients to co-create visual and auditive representations (avatar) of the patient’s inner voices, and subsequently engage in real time role play controlled by the therapist.

The goal of the solution and therapy is to build up the patient’s ability to control the voices and take back control.

Since 2020 Heka VR has been involved in 14 clinical trials and studies in 10+ countries, and shows groundbreaking clinical efficacy for auditory hallucinations in treatment schizophrenia.

RCT results for eating disorders are expected end of year 2026.

Further active clinical pipeline includes youth schizophrenia (12-17), borderline disorder, OCD, family therapy (incl. internal family systems) and major depression.
