Treatment resistance is widespread and serious in severe mental health conditions, which calls for new and clinically effective treatment options. In schizophrenia approx. 30% of patients do not respond to current treatment options, predominantly medication and talking therapies.
For other mental health conditions the average treatment resistance ranges between 20-40%, and apart from inflicting immense individual suffering it contributes to huge economic costs for individuals, families and societies world wide.
Heka VR is a medical software tool therapists and patients to co-create visual and auditive representations (avatar) of the patient’s inner voices, and subsequently engage in real time role play controlled by the therapist.
The goal of the solution and therapy is to build up the patient’s ability to control the voices and take back control.
Since 2020 Heka VR has been involved in 14 clinical trials and studies in 10+ countries, and shows groundbreaking clinical efficacy for auditory hallucinations in treatment schizophrenia.
RCT results for eating disorders are expected end of year 2026.
Further active clinical pipeline includes youth schizophrenia (12-17), borderline disorder, OCD, family therapy (incl. internal family systems) and major depression.
Advance AI based voice modulation based on six distinct voice features enables the patient to re-create their inner voice in a hyper realistic manner.
Enables the patient to create a visual representation of their inner voice that is realistic and accurate.
A range of immersive therapy environments where the patient can practise facing and speaking with their avatar. The therapist is always in full control of all features during therapy.
Possibility to record the avatar-patient conversation for the patient to use as homework and practise between sessions.
The patient can share the avatar image and voice recording with their family and friends. This support in building understanding of the patient's experience and illness.
Possibility to add various foods and snacks on a virtual tabel in front of the avatar during therapy; with the goal to practise the relationship with various food groups.
