AI for youth mental health and substance use health: A primer

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly relevant in everyday practice across the child and youth mental health and addictions sector, prompting careful consideration of both its potential benefits and risks for services, client experiences, and outcomes.

The Knowledge Institute on Child and Youth Mental Health and Addictions has released a new resource to help address this issue.

This first in a series of documents on AI serves as a primer for youth mental health and substance use health, introducing key concepts and providing a broad overview of emerging opportunities, ethical and practical considerations, and potential applications in real-world settings.

Designed to support leaders, decision-makers, and practitioners, it lays the groundwork for deeper exploration in subsequent resources focused on service delivery and the impacts of AI on young people and families.
