We promote Togetherall to our whole student population as a support for normal but challenging life events, as well as a support for students with mental health difficulties. It has proven to be an invaluable resource for students who are not availing of traditional university supports.

Treasa Fox, Head of Student Counselling, Technological University of the Shannon

I used Togetherall when I was going through a tough time, I considered dropping out of college. The support and guidance I received enabled me to speak to my tutor, and we found solutions together. Without Togetherall I would not be completing my degree this year.

Daniel, 4th year student, Technological University of the Shannon

Our social impact mission realised: safe, anonymous digital peer support with true expert clinical monitoring that every young person across Ireland can now access, where and when they need it.

Dr. Ben Locke, Chief Clinical Officer, Togetherall

Togetherall connects people with support from their peers, and other valuable tools, with convenience, anonymity and flexibility. Importantly for commissioners, it includes robust clinical moderation and risk management.

Paul Longmore, Senior Project Manager, National Mental Health (HSE)

Together with HSE, we're reaching young people across Ireland who might never otherwise seek support, empowering them to take their next step toward wellbeing, on their own terms.

Matthew McEvoy, CEO, Togetherall

Initiative Overview

The Current Gap

Our solution fills critical gaps by supporting young people who do not seek help through traditional campus or national services. It provides immediate, regulated and clinically moderated, on‑demand support which reaches those not seeking traditional support and meets diverse mental‑health needs through safe, accessible, round‑the‑clock digital care.

Togetherall’s partnerships in Ireland deliver strong outcomes, including high engagement among young people and positive feedback.

Irish members shared: ‘I found Togetherall when I was struggling and found it so helpful to communicate with others in the same situation’ – ‘People have commented with their experiences which has overwhelmed me with so much relief that I am not alone in how I feel’.

Our Solution

Through our partnership, we’ve expanded mental‑health support by meeting unmet needs, improving access and choice to youth while strengthening care pathways, successfully delivering effective crisis intervention, and providing out‑of‑hours, in‑the‑moment support.

This collaboration has significantly extended the reach and impact of existing mental‑health services across Ireland.

Key Learnings

• Providing assurance to senior decision makers and budget holders on the safety and effectiveness of a digital support not directly linked from the outset to a tradition/in-person service
• Ensuring risk identification, escalation and management protocols were in place and tailored to the local context
• Competing for budget with other service needs and priorities
• Making the case for investment in service which provides support primarily from peers
• Importance of maximising accessibility and minimising exclusion criteria for any digital mental health service for young people.
• New digital service developments should complement and integrate with existing services and supports.
• Value of new digital offerings that increase choice and flexibility for service users.
• Importance of ensuring new mental health initiatives align with national policy and priorities.
• Regular communication and coordination support effective collaboration.
• Robust clinical oversight, tailored to the online delivery model and local context, is critical.
• Robust clinical oversight provides assurance to service commissioners and increases trust among clinicians and service users.
• International collaboration has facilitated 24/7 access through the use of clinical staff based internationally allowing clinical moderation to be provided at any time of the day or night.
• International collaboration also facilitates international learning and knowledge transfer.
• The model that has been implemented locally in Ireland had also been seen to be successful across the UK and in Canada.

Looking Ahead

Future plans will evolve in light of evidence arising from continued monitoring and evaluation. The initial value was seen in Ireland after successful implementation in the third level education sector.
