Substance use disorder (SUD) treatment often fails to adequately involve families, despite evidence that strong support systems improve recovery outcomes. Communication between patients, families, and care teams is frequently fragmented, leaving caregivers under-informed and individuals disconnected from continuous support outside clinical settings. Existing treatment models also struggle with engagement, retention, relapse prevention, and scalable long-term follow-up.
Pathroot addresses these gaps through an AI-powered engagement platform that enables a connected “circle of care,” empowering families to actively participate in recovery while improving coordination, accountability, and personalized support. This creates a more continuous, accessible, and family-centered approach to behavioral healthcare and sustained recovery.
Carolyn Bradfield founded Pathroot after losing her daughter to an overdose and experiencing firsthand the devastating gaps in substance use disorder care and family support. She recognized that families are often excluded from treatment despite playing a critical role in recovery outcomes.
Motivated by personal loss and a desire to prevent similar tragedies, Carolyn created Pathroot as an AI-enabled “circle of care” platform that strengthens communication, accountability, and continuous engagement among individuals, families, and care teams. Her mission is to build more compassionate, family-centered behavioral healthcare systems that improve recovery outcomes and save lives.
