Initiative Overview

The Current Gap

There is a gap in the recognition, and acknowledgment of the realities of caregiving of people, usually family members, who have mental illness challenges. Recognizing caregiving in mental health is in its infancy, but as society comes to recognize and de-stigmatize mental illness, the role of caregiver must also come to the foreground, and with it an acknowledgement of the need to support these caregivers.

Our Solution

A caregiver mentor program providing initial online training to individuals who act as mentors to other caregivers of loved ones with similar lived experience. This is supported by online caregiver support programs facilitated by professionals in eating disorder recovery and treatment.

Our programs provide a combination of improvements in the mental health of the caregiver and by extension in the individual challenged by an eating disorder, as well as a positive economic impact within Canada.

Key Learnings

Reach and attendance. Once caregivers are engaged the feedback is excellent but getting them to register and attend the programs continues to be a challenge.
Continue to revisit the scope and direction of your programs to ensure you are delivering what your population needs.
