As a GP, I signpost patients to reputable resources offering trusted, up-to-date information. The Mind charity website hosts validated apps supporting mental wellbeing and serves as an essential hub. Oldest and most well-known mental health charity, I confidently recommend it, with evidence-based guidance, articles, and personal stories meeting patients’ needs.

Sorted Mental Health App was thrilled to collaborate with Mind last year, as part of their Library of self-managed resources. Mind is a vital source of reliable, high-quality information, and we’re proud to support their initiative by being included as a trusted and effective, audio self-help resource for managing stress, anxiety, and depression.

Initiative Overview

The Current Gap

In today’s digital-first world, trust and digital literacy are increasingly important in providing and obtaining effective healthcare. And as more people turn to apps, websites, and social media for health advice, the quality and credibility of that information becomes critical.

Trust is essential because healthcare decisions often carry serious consequences. If patients or clinicians can’t trust the digital tools they’re using — whether it’s an app for managing diabetes or a mental health chatbot — they simply won’t use them. Or worse – will use them, and have worsened outcomes.

The accreditation has been developed by Mind and ORCHA, leveraging our experience and understanding of digital health assessment. It combines elements from the NHS Digital Technology Assessment Criteria (DTAC), the ORCHA Baseline Assessment (OBR) and Mind specific criteria, exclusive to the Mind accreditation.

Our Solution

Mind, in partnership with ORCHA (The Organisation for the Review of Health and Care Apps) have created an App Library and Assurance Scheme for mental health related digital technologies. Together we want to help people in England and Wales find the very best and safest digital technologies to help them manage their mental health.

There are over 365,000 apps and other technologies to choose from. We believe everyone deserves great quality support. That’s why we are working with ORCHA to assess mental health apps across four domains:

• Clinical Assurance & Safety
• Usability & Accessibility
• Data Privacy
• Technical Security
