Thank you for this AMAZING content. This is really changing the way I think about and actually interact with my baby and I think she is loving it!!! I told everyone at my mom and baby's play centre about it. This is AMAZING information.

Rachel, Parent

My experience participating in the program was very positive. I found it helpful in strengthening my relationship with my child, particularly in deepening emotional connection and improving communication. It offered practical tools as well as meaningful reflection, which I’ve continued to integrate into my parenting.

Chris, Parent

One thing I really like about the MTC program is that it is easy to understand with practical examples of what it looks like to create secure attachments.

Initiative Overview

The Current Gap

Many parents and caregivers feel unsure of how to best support and build a strong connection with their baby in the first few years of life. This may lead to lower parenting confidence and increased risk of parenting stress. Insecure attachment relationships in the first three years of life has a profound impact on mental and emotional development throughout childhood and into adulthood.

Recognizing these risk factors early makes it clear that parents and caregivers need an accessible attachment parenting program that is grounded in psychological science.

The Make the Connection® online program also includes access to a library of resources that have been recommended by experts on Strong Minds Strong Kids, Psychology Canada’s 0-3 Committee, as well as an array of self-care strategies that can be used by parents, caregivers, and professionals who may need the additional support in caring for themselves while giving so much energy to support the infants they care for.

Key Learnings

The main challenge in developing the Make the Connection® program has been ensuring flexibility and variety so the program is accessible and engaging for busy parents and caregivers, while maintaining program integrity and efficacy. The main challenge in implementing the program has been establishing uptake for the program and encouraging users to complete the program in its entirety.
Evidence shows the highest efficacy when programs are delivered in a hybrid model. Since originally developing the Make the Connection® online program, we have since needed to develop opportunities for live, guided engagement with the program to support the digital resource.

Looking Ahead

Future plans for the Make the Connection® program include live-delivery of the program to cohorts of parents, providing additional learning opportunities through live and recorded webinars, and expanding the online platform to include additional courses and topics related to building secure attachment with infants ages 0-3.
Strong Minds Strong Kids, Psychology Canada is open to providing training for professionals who would like to facilitate the Make the Connection program to parents / families they support.
