Initiative Overview

The Current Gap

Many people in Aotearoa struggle to find and access mental health and wellbeing support that fits their circumstances, whether due to long wait lists, limited local options, or not knowing where to start. Organisations, meanwhile, often lack an easy way to offer staff flexible, proactive wellbeing support alongside practical tools and resources.

Traditional pathways can be slow, rigid, and hard to navigate, particularly for people needing accessible, culturally responsive, or non-traditional forms of care.

Ignite is part of the Ka Puta Ka Ora Emerge Aotearoa Group. Wellbeing+ is deliberately sector-agnostic, supporting everything from corporate workplaces to industry bodies and education providers with the same flexible, self-directed access to care. Ignite has also just partnered with Farmlands and Rural Support Trust on a three-year initiative giving rural New Zealanders, farmers, growers, farm workers and their whānau, three free mental health and wellbeing sessions each, bookable online, by phone or in person, to remove the distance, cost and privacy barriers that have traditionally kept rural communities from getting support.

Our Solution

Ignite is a marketplace and platform connecting individuals directly with vetted mental health and wellbeing professionals — psychologists, counsellors, coaches, rongoā practitioners and more — bookable in person, by phone, or via secure video. Wellbeing+, Ignite’s modern take on the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), extends this to organisations of all kinds (workplaces, schools, tertiary providers and more) giving their people 24/7 access to providers, session allowances, an interactive resource library, wellbeing tools and monthly webinars, skipping traditional triage and referral delays. Ignite also licenses its technology (Ignite Connect) for organisations to run their own branded provider networks.

Key Learnings

Cross-sector collaboration has allowed Ignite to move faster than it could alone, joining forces with Farmlands and Rural Support Trust to bring free wellbeing sessions to rural New Zealanders who’ve long faced barriers of distance, cost and privacy; partnering with oVRcome and the Ministry of Education to pilot VR-based youth vaping cessation; and working with Green Cross Health to pilot embedded mental health support directly into GP pathways. Each partnership tackles a different access barrier, showing how combining sector-specific expertise with ignite’s technology delivers impact that no single organisation could achieve on its own.
