eMHIC is humbled to welcome Michel Rodrigue, President and CEO of the Mental Health Commission of Canada, as our latest board member.

Michel is driven by his commitment to the principle of mental health for all — where people have equitable access to recovery-oriented, evidence-based, culturally adapted mental health care, when and where they need it. We are grateful to have Michel’s experience, passion and leadership joining the eMHIC team.

Michel’s response to joining the board:

As the President and CEO of the Mental Health Commission of Canada, joining eMHIC’s Board is an opportunity to advance important work in eMental Health on an international scale. As a survivor of suicide loss, it’s an opportunity to contribute to the kind of innovations that could have made all the difference.

In 2005, I lost a close friend to suicide. He had a wife, two young children, and so much life ahead of him. I often wonder, as loved ones left behind tend to do, what might have changed the outcome. Mental health supports have evolved a great deal since 2005, with eMental Health quickly becoming a cornerstone of care. Through eMental Health technologies, people experiencing mental health or substance use health problems can access support sooner, more conveniently, and without the same stigma associated with clinical settings. My friend suffered in silence for many months before taking his life. I can’t help but think that if we he had timely access to quality eMental Health services, he might still be here today.

It’s an honour to join eMHIC’s Board, not only to help improve the mental health and substance use outcomes for all populations, but to champion a movement that can change, and save, lives.”
