Parliament has set a new benchmark in mental health advocacy with its comprehensive resolution dated 12 December 2023. The Own Initiative Report, led by MEP Sara, presents a holistic approach to mental health, affirming it as a fundamental human right and addressing its multifaceted nature across the EU.

The European Parliament has recently advanced mental health advocacy through a comprehensive resolution dated 12 December 2023. The resolution emphasises mental health as a fundamental human right essential for individual and societal well-being.

 

The resolution highlights the need for parity between mental and physical health, targets support for vulnerable groups such as women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and the elderly, and recognises the role and risks of digital technologies in mental health care.

 

Furthermore, it addresses the economic and social impacts of mental health conditions, supports a transition to community-based care, and promotes patient-centric approaches in healthcare planning.
